Les Gets - Summer holidays with a member of Chalets1066 team

Having worked for Chalets 1066 for almost 2 years, I finally persuaded by my parents and sisters to take a week’s summer holiday with me in Les Gets. To my delight, we all had one of the best holidays we had had for many years and I have created this article to show what we did each day:

Saturday -  We arrived at Chardon Lac on Saturday afternoon. Everyone was delighted with the chalet: the view from the balcony across to Mont Caly is beautiful, we all felt that the chalet is spacious and cosy. My sisters were so delighted by the hot tub that they persuaded  the rest of us to spend the evening in the hot tub to plan the week (of course, taking a break every 20 minutes to comply with health regulations for using a hot tub!)

Sunday  -  After breakfast, we walked to the village to do the necessary shopping for groceries, as there is a footpath to the village from the road the chalet is on,  it took only a few minutes in good walking shoes to arrive at the village centre. In the winter, one can use the same route to ski in/out from Chardon Lac and Chalet Lunar. All the shops were open and we were able to easily get everything we wanted. 
On our way back, we went for a quick walk around the Lac des Gets which is only a few minutes away from the chalet by foot. We saw there where will be the Alta Lumina, a new activity in Les Gets, that will be available beginning of August 2020.

Sunday afternoon we spent relaxing in the garden, enjoying the hot tub, the views, making a BBQ and cooking.

Monday -  As a birthday present to both my sisters, I booked for us all to go to the Pottery in the morning to learn how to throw a rot on a wheel and also to do clay modelling. The workshop is surrounded by the forest on the Lassare road with beautiful views, they are real French artisans and keep goats in the shed next to the pottery. After 2 hours of hilarious moments on the wheel, we are the proud owners of bowls and mugs of different sizes and shapes…!
After a quick lunch at the chalet, we decided to go on a road trip to have a look at the village of Avoriaz.

Avoriaz can only be visited on foot, on bikes or even on electric scooters available in the resort. The views are breathtaking, the architecture was very fashionable in the 1970’s, some of us liked it, some not, whether we liked it or not… we didn’t stay long. Avoriaz in the summer offers many activities (with inflatable structures, ping-pong, petanque, archery, kinder gardens and so on). We went on with our little road trip, and on the way down, we stopped at the Lindarets Village. The village is also called the Goats Village, and as you can imagine, is very famous for its goats wondering around in the streets, waiting to be fed by visitors.
The last stop of our afternoon trip was the beautiful Lac de Montriond where we went for a dip in the lake and a drink!

Tuesday -  The weather was sunny and warm so we went for a hike on Mont Chery. We parked at Mont Caly and went on a trail called La Boucle des Clarines, this makes a loop from Mont Caly to Mont Chery and back, this took us 2 hours to complete it (approximately 6 kms). The path is mostly flat and suitable for families with young children. This trail is famous for its magnificent views of the village, Les Chavannes and the Mont Blanc.

My family loves good wine and we soon realised the supply we brought would not be enough for the week. As they were not too impressed by the wine in the supermarket, we ordered wine from the Chef Cellar Company. Joe and Annabel came to the chalet to deliver wine (free delivery in Les Gets). My family felt that their selection was very good, with a range of wines from affordable to some which are very special. All the wine was very good value and in effect at wholesale price. Joe and Annabel know their stuff, we found them to be very friendly and very responsive and the order process very easy to use.

In the evening, Les Gets had the traditional 14th of July firework show which we watched from the end of the road – where the Chavannes piste is.

Wednesday -  We decided to go to the Les Gets new spa, Les Sources du Chery. It is a great activity to do when the weather gets cloudy and rainy which was the case on this day. The newly built spa is very well designed with an indoor pool and in my opinion is a must-do activity during a holiday in Les Gets.

After the Spa, we felt we needed a hot drink and some cakes to complete the experience and went to Wild Beet Kitchen. The restaurant/coffee shop has a very healthy and tasty lunch menu and great options for vegetarians. We all thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, coffee and cakes – which we felt are unique in the village.

Thursday -  We went for another hike but this time at the Vallée de la Manche around the Lac de Mines d’Or. The views of the surrounding mountains are superb. It is a peaceful place and we spent some times looking at the fishermen around the lake catching trout from the terrasse of the near restaurant.

Friday -  On Friday, we went for a day trip on the Lac Léman and spent the day on a sandy beach in Excevenex. As you can see on the picture the weather became quite windy, but the water was warm.

Saturday - We went for lunch at the Chevrelles restaurant on Mont Caly for our last time together. The restaurant offers a traditional Savoyard menu and their terrasse has a direct view of the Mont Blanc. It is very popular place for lunch and we recommend to book before hand!
