Two new ski lifts last ski season proved to be a great success when they opened last ski season and meant that those staying in Les Gets could get faster and easier access to the rest of the Portues du Soleil:
The new Pleney lift is not only much faster and has greater capacity, it also is much easier to get on and off and there are no steps at bottom or top – the entrance and exit are at street and piste levels.
The new Prodan lift is a much faster route directly to Avoriaz
The new 6 man Troncs ski lifts also was much faster and smoother
The picture opposite is of the Pleney ski lift as it was in the 1930's – we have come a long way since then!...
This is a new video showing the work that goes into preparation and management of the pistes, and the ski lifts in the Les Gets area. The video is fascinating.Clearly, all the people who manage the pistes are highly skilled – and they do an excellent job. The end result is that the quality of the piste is very good in Les Gets, the queues at the lifts are relatively short and the area is relatively safe.Of interest - I have sat on the 'red eye' plane a few times, on an early Monday morning going from Geneva to London - chatting to people who have been to the high resorts, only for them to tell me that the snow is 'blown off', that the conditions are so bad it is hard to ski or that they sp...
The Criterium du Dauphin is going through Les Gets and Morzine this weekend, you should be able to see Chris Froome at some point between 1.00 and 1.15 on Saturday. This is the 7th stage of the race and is well known as being a key event before the Tour de France. The stage details are shown opposite.
Based on previous events, the roads will be full of people wanting to get a glimpse of Froome – should be an exciting day. The local route is:
Les Gets > Hotel du Savoie roundabout > Route de la Combe a Zore > La Rotonde > Place de l'Office de Tourisme > Rue du Bourg > Mairie > Route des Bois Venants > Montrond > Plagnettes > St Jean d'Aulps.

Les Gets looks set for another fantastic summer with a very wide range of events and activities, from amazing mountain biking to the lounge music festival and the international festival of mechanical music. Some of the latest news of what is on is:
Les Gets has three new tracks:• The Red Cross Trail – this is from the top of the Chavannes Express lift, across the top of Lea Rosta, then down to the Mouillie Ronde forest road and back to Les Gets village.• Blue Trail on the Chavannes – this is a short run in the Grany Cry area.• Freeride on Mont Chery – this starts from the top of the bubble lift and is another run down Mont Chery
It has been snowing most of the day in Les Gets, temperatures are cold and the snow is settling. The snow making machines have also been hard at work overnight.
This is a brilliant time for taking a ski holiday, there are no queues at the lifts, the pistes are quiet, and the conditions are excellent. The picture opposite was taken of the Granges Piste earlier today, just after lunch. The pistes were so quiet that even after lunch, in parts, you could still see the combing from the piste machines.
The Chavannes piste had two very different goups on it: today there was the 'wacky races' - where seasonaires dress up in fancy dress and ski for the afternoon, and also most of the local school c...
