Crankworx 2016
The Chalets1066 Team Wednesday, 06 April 2016

Although the winter season is coming to a close here in Les Gets, the resort stays alive during the summer months with an influx of visitors for the alternative sports that become available. One of the key attractions to the area during the summer is the popular mountain biking terrain, as the resort offers 95 kilometres of biking trails.  With this in mind, Les Gets has been chosen as the European leg of the Crankworx world tour for the next 3 years.  Crankworx is a freeride mountain bike competition and festival that began in Whistler in 2004, and with every year has increased in size and popularity. This is the fifth year the French alps have hosted the event and it is set to ...

Rock the Pistes in Les Gets

Rock the Pistes in Les Gets
The Chalets1066 Team Wednesday, 16 March 2016

The annual Rock the Pistes Festival has finally arrived in the Portes du Soleil, having started on the 13th March and running until the 19th March.  The festival which is now in its sixth year, is essentially seasonnaire heaven, music and the stunning backdrop of the mountains. It’s only on for a week so if you want to make the most of it then you’ll need to get your act together in the next few days, especially as it looks like it will provide us with some of the best apres of the season.  The stage is set up in a different location each day, and on 17th March Izia will be performing between Morzine and Les Gets at the top of the Folliets chairlift - which is pretty great fo...

Lost and Found

Lost and Found
The Chalets1066 Team Wednesday, 09 March 2016

Two weeks ago, some of our guests included a little girl called Sophie and her favourite teddy.  In the stress of getting belongings together and leaving the chalet at the end of the week, the teddy was left behind. This was heartbreaking to Sophie and her family, since she can’t sleep without it.  The teddy was found by the cleaning team and returned to the chalets1066 office, who then made a valiant effort to ensure that it was returned. It was sent by post back to the UK, and the pair were happily reunited a number of days later.   Last week we were sent a short video of Sophie saying thank you, with the teddy in its rightful place, with her.  https://youtu.be/fZ...

Fight Fight Fight

Fight Fight Fight

As the sun was setting over the Portes du Soleil last night a brawl was ensuing at the Skoda stadium in Morzine. If you think that ice hockey matches involve fights, blood, violence - then you’d be right. If you’re an avid ice hockey fan then this is the place to be every week, but if you’re more interested in the drama that unfurls on the ice then this provides more entertainment than the you could ever want.  If that isn’t enough for you then the kiss-cam, which forces strangers to become better acquainted, is another source of quality entertainment.  So if you fancy an alternative evening activity then this is the place to be. And if none of the above appeals to you th...

Fire spectacle in Les Gets

Fire spectacle in Les Gets
The Chalets1066 Team Wednesday, 24 February 2016

Valentine’s day may have passed but don’t worry, you can still ignite the flame in the Alps. On the 24th February and the 2nd March head down to the bottom of the Chavannes next to apres bar, where it will be heating up for the descente aux flambeaux caritative. A group of ESF hotties and their students will be descending down the slopes in a procession of flames. If you’re lucky the lovely gentlemen from apres will continue to light your fire over a hot drink of zante.  In all seriousness though, this is an event that shouldn’t be missed.  On the topic of things not to be missed, the Alps isn’t just for skiing, with events like Crankworx and L’tappe de tour, Les Gets ...
