Snow activities

- Snowshoeing and hiking

Les Gets has a huge amount of marked hiking and snowshoeing routes suitable for all abilities.

The map showing the routes is available from the Tourist Office. Theses routes are pisted and taken care of by the resort and snow patrols. Not all the walks will be open during the holidays, please check with the Tourist Office or by clicking on the link above to see the accessible walks.

Snowshoeing and hiking are a safe and wonderful way to enjoy the mountains.  They are suitable for anyone who wants to have a gentle stroll to the beautiful Les Gets Lake, and for more ambitious walkers who would like to climb Mont Chery which is 1600 meters vertical giving 360° views at the top, of Mont-Blanc, Morzine Valley, and Leman Lake. The snowshoe routes are vast and there is plenty to do for an entire week. We can recommend beautiful routes, for example, the loop around Mont-Chery and its different points of view, or the route around the bowl.

A great option would be to have a guide. These are all shown on our web site. Qualified guides have a vast knowledge of the terrain, the landscapes, the wildlife and the vegetation. They can plan a route perfect for your ability. If you are more ambitious they can also safely take you into the backcountry away from civilization to find mountain routes which are quiet and untouched. Many guides also offer a moonlight walk for an amazing experience.

Most of the rental shops in Les Gets offer snowshoeing equipment for hire with poles and advice for your walking routes.

- Ski touring and off piste : the resort is yours

This is the ultimate experience for the off-piste skiers. Currently, the ski lifts are closed. This does not restrict anyone from using ski-touring equipment and enjoying beautiful parts of the mountains which you can’t get to from the piste. Berthet Sports keep a stock of ski touring equipment (skis with touring bindings, skins, poles, etc)  or Ski mobile, and their qualified team can come directly to your chalet to deliver the equipment.

If you are new to ski touring, we advise that initially, you book a guide/instructor who can keep you safe and lead you along the best routes most suited to your ability and fitness. This sport is amazing but requires good equipment and safety gear, and in addition, the guide can take you around the resort exploring quiet pistes with untouched powder lines. If you feeling more ambitious they can take you into the backcountry, exploring the summits of the mountain ranges. Think about ESF or 360 School.

- Nordic ski, the original way to ski

Nordic skiing, or cross-country, is the original kind of skiing when it was used as a way of transport around and between mountain villages. Les Gets has kilometres of nordic tracks for you to explore. Nordic skiing is a fantastic form of fitness and a fast way to get around on skis.

For beginner nordic skiers, we recommend you to take a lesson with a ski school, as the techniques as slightly different from alpine skiing.

- Playing in the snow

The family can have great fun on Christmas days, playing in the snow. Chalets1066 has plenty of sledges for your use and Les Gets has some great sledging spots. Making snowmen and throwing snowballs is also great fun for children.

And if your little Eskimos fancy to trying the mini North Pole and its inflatables, ice caves, bear mascots and snow walls, this is located behind the Tourist Office. The admission is free.

- Electric snowmobiles: ecological activity for the little ones

For the first time, children can learn to drive electric snowmobiles, specifically designed for their age on a dedicated, enclosed circuit. As a bonus, this “zero-emission” activity has no negative impact on the local environment. Located at the Lac des Ecoles and Gentiane blue run below the Chavannes Express chair lift, the park is open 6 days/week during the French School holidays, from 10am to 5pm for 5 to 17-year-olds.

- Dog sledging, dog-hiking, taxi-baby : an incredible experience with animals (FULL)

In the area of Mont-Caly or La Sarre, Didier and his 8 sledge dogs will offer an amazing experience to your children between 5 to 12 years old. You can also try a new activity, the Nordic dog-hiking : a hike in which you are harnessed to a dog. Create an amazing rapport with one of his beautiful 6 nordic dogs during one and a half hours around the Mont-Caly area. Didier takes care of you respecting the Covid-19 measures with a small group of 4 from the same family or group.

- Fat biking on snow

It is now possible to Mountain bike during the winter in Les Gets with fat bikes. They are normal mountain e-bike with huge tyres to grip the snow and icy paths. You can try the circuit from the village to the Belvedere on Mont-Chery and go down to the village by the Mont-Caly road and have the chance to discover the amazing views of the Mont-Blanc summit. We know than some shops (Intersport for example) are waiting for an authorization for this activity.

Magical atmosphere in the Village

Les Gets is a great place for shopping for winter fashion, clothes and accessories. There are many shops, not only sport shops but also fashion shops and an excellent traditional market every Thursday morning.

For a fantastic mountain Christmas, local shops offer traditional savoy souvenirs and local products. Walk along the streets, and feel this magic and joy all around you, the lights and decorated Christmas trees creating an amazing atmosphere.

In the centre of the village, is a fantastic ice skating rink with a rental shop which offers skates in all sizes. For small children, there is a little sitting sledge for you to push them around and they can still feel the sensation of their skates on the ice.

And if you want to know more about the local and fascinating Museum of Mechanical Music, feel free to discover its 350 exhibits which are all working along a guided tour.  There, pianos, violins, wind instruments, and even organs which will be demonstrated to you. Such an original experience for all the family.

Christmas, one of the best times of the year for epicurean people

One of the great pleasures of a holiday with family and friends is to sit around the table enjoying delicious food.

To begin the day with a great breakfast, we offer a service of bread and viennoiseries which we can deliver every morning to your chalet (at the same price as the local baker charges in the village plus our standard fee for delivery). In the evening, you can cook in your well-equipped kitchen or select from our catering options. You could choose to have a Chef preparing your festive and daily meals with local and fresh products. Alternately, you could chose an amazing food delivery service from Bon Appetit and Dining Direct. The perfect occasion for you and all your family to discover the amazing traditional mountain food and gourmet cuisine.

Even though the restaurants will not be open during the holidays, many of them will offer to take away or delivery services to let you discover their amazing and tasty menus ( we will also deliver for the restaurants in the evenings). We will also propose you a delivery service in case the restaurant of your choice doesn't organize it.

Massages: treat yourself

And to finish on a relaxing note, what is better than a massage during your holidays ? You can choose between different possibilities. Serenecimes and Clair Moment are welcoming you in the village for a relaxing moment. Massage companies can come to your chalet for a delightful treat when you just come back from an intense day on the mountains.

We all live in Les Gets, this lovely little gem in Haute-Savoie, and feel like this place has something special, offering activities, events, a magical atmosphere for everyone. Plenty of snow fell over the few last days, and we are waiting more in the next days. What a treat for our eyes, Les Gets is looking like a beautiful postcard with snow everywhere at the moment! We look forward to seeing you in a few weeks to begin this new winter season 2020-2021 and we will be ready to welcome you in the best conditions !
