Les Gets Self Catering Ski Chalets

Self Catered Accommodation in Les Gets

Many who come to Les Gets for skiing holidays chose self catered accommodation for the following reasons:

  • It is much more relaxed having your own chalet or apartment than being in a hotel - having your own living room is much better for a family/group than sharing a hotel coffee area.
  • It is usually much more fun than in a hotel.
  • In the current economic climate, self catering is much better value than a hotel.

At Chalets 1066, we have a range of self catered accommodation in Les Gets, from a 2 bedroom apartment to a chalet which can cater for 14. Additionally, in the main building, we often have groups as large as 30, they take multiple apartments - in the evenings they will all eat in the same apartment and then in different apartments, they have different evening activities of films showing.

Some of the challenges of self catered accommodation are:

  • If something breaks down  - eg a dishwasher, or there is a water leak, in the evening, you have to wait until the next day to contact the agent
  • You have no option but to cook yourself or go to expensive restaurants.
  • No one is available for advice and guidance
  • Getting fresh croissants and bread means an early trip to the shops

Chalets1066 address these challenges:

We are able to offer:

  • Fresh bread and croissants delivered for 08.00 in the morning
  • An optional chef service
  • Some-one on hand locally in emergency 24 hours a day in case of maintenance problems
  • Ski and boot fitting at your chalet/apartment
  • Ski pass collection

In summary, we are able to give our self catered clients the benefits of a chalet or hotel ski holiday, but you only pay for those services you chose to have. In these difficult economic times, this is very popular.

Ski Holiday Chalets Les Gets - Chalets 1066

Over the past 10 years, we have had some fantastic holidays in Les Gets - initially my husband and our two boys went mountain biking in the summer. Having mountain biked in most areas of the UK and also in the Rockies in Canada, we are of the firm view that Les Gets and the Portes du Soliel are the best in the world.

We started skiing, as a family, in La Thuile, where my sister has a 13 bedroom hotel, however, we feel that Les Gets is far more suited to families and mixed skiing abilities. It is also much closer to Geneva.

In 2005, we bought our first 4 bedroom apartment at Hastings, at the time this was run as a Residence du Tourisme - ie self catering apartments with hotel services, at the time, Hastings was run by Tony Merkin.

Tony, had decided to move to Canada for family reasons, this coincided with our youngest daughter going to University. I was keen to take on a new project and so decided to take over the running of Chalets1066 in 2008.

Last season, I had two staff, one of whom had previously managed Hastings and his knowledge of the operation was critical in ensuring a smooth handover.

For the ski season 2009 to 2010 our younger son, Ben, who has only just left the Royal Marines is at Hastings with his exceptionally capable girlfriend - Morven - they are helping to run the operation. Ben will be training to be a ski instructor next season. I have to say it is quite a relief Ben not going to Afghanstan again, over the past few years I have met many in the Royal Marines and have a great respect for them as individuals.

Our eldest Son, Chris, helps with the web site and reservations systems. Chris is currently at Toronto University working on his Thesis for his Doctorate in Political Philosophy (he has degrees in Philosophy, Law and Politics from:- Oxford, London and York) he is currently focussing on publishing academic papers and has recently been asked to speak at a seminar in Political Philosophy at Princeton. Mark, my husband, spends many weekends working on: accounts, marketing, planning and also on the web site. (Please note - any poor grammar in the web site will be Mark's work - not Chris!).

We must also thank our friend, Ariane Cutler, who is a native French speaker - born in Belgum - she helps where we have particularly complex issues to deal with (for example insurance claims) and where complex communication of particular problems, in French, is needed.

We love Les Gets, it is a beautiful area all year round, for us, this is a long term plan and we are certainly not doing this for short term monetary reasons!

We are established as a French Business: SARL Vacances aux Chavannes,

The Navette bus runs every 30 minutes in the Ski season and every hour in the summer, it stops right outside Hastings and stops at many points in the village and also at the Les Filloets Ski lift.

Lifts for Children to Ski Schools:

We will give lifts for Childern to the ski school in the morning.

During the Ski and Summer Seasons, we can organise your transfer from Geneva Airport for you, this is €35 per person per person each way - just let us know.

Skis, Boots and Passes

Boot Fitting at Hastings when you arrive:

We all know how frustrating it is to spend the first half day of our ski holiday queuing for ski and boot hire. We also know how difficult it is when boots do not fit quite correctly and you have to spend more time in the ski shop changing them.
We have an arrangement with ski-mobile so you can be fitted with boots and skis as soon as you arrive – this effectively gives you an extra half to one day’s skiing at no extra cost.
Costs are typically around the same as those in the village, where you have to que, we additionally, we have secured a further  discount of 10% for our clients.
The way this works is you simply go to
www.ski-mobile.com and put in Hastings as the accomodation and you automatically get discount.

Discount in the Village:

We have an agreement with Delvay Sports for our clients to have discount, just ask for a voucher when you arrive.

Ski Passes

Again – we all know how frustrating it is queuing for ski passes when all we want to do is to get on the slopes.
We will arrange for your ski passes to be in your apartment on your day of arrival – just let us know what type of passes you want, childrens/adult/senior passes and start/end date. We make a small charge for this service (a collection charge in peak ski season and no discount off peak).
